ASTRAL AVENGER A standard process for designing new creatures is by incorporating existing spells into a beastie. To my surprise, I discovered that no creature as of yet utilized the Unsummon effect. Astral Avenger is my attempt to fill this gap. A nice little creature, IMO. Pardon my ignorance concerning the nuances of MtG timing issues, but I never did grasp whether or not Avenger would suffer damage before or after his special ability kicked in. I assumed the former, as otherwise the card would be the perfect Wall. TERROR OF THE DEEP Nothing special here - just wanted to add a medium level beastie to the merfolk "pool" of creatures. SAILOR'S DELIGHT This is,quite simply, my favorite card. Never had a card's image, concept, and
theme came together as smoothly, as nicely as this one did. For several reasons, this
card is special to me in a personal manner. I was enjoying the concept of a theme deck
basd around ships, and wanted to build up the possibilities. Besides that, I'd known
the flavor text rhyme for years, taught to me in the early years of my Boy Scouts
membership. DRAGON TAMER This card is the creation of Sean Lester, one of three cards that I've presented here of his design. Note that the card is a 500+k file, instead of the previous 50k or so files. Sean wanted it that way! This is a good card design, with an intriguing image and a unique usage. Dragon Tamer is close to worthless when playing the average opponent, but is deadly when playing against those dragon themedecks! Yet another unfinished card, so feel free to send any thoughts or ideas on what concept should go with this image. The image is a powerful one to me - the cold, dead background in contrast to the vivid, living foreground could make a powerful statement. ILLUSIONIST I've always been a fan of illusionary magicks in the AD&D game. Unlike the narrow purposed spells such as Fireball and Magic Missile, a creative user of illusions could do just about anything. This fascination with illusion carried over to MtG, with its small but sturdy number of illusionary/phantasmal creatures. With all those phantasmal beasties running about, someone must've created them.... MERCHANT PRINCE After the release of my Sailor's Delight card, I received many emails asking if I had some affinity for ships. Well, in "real life", the answer is no. Sailor's Delight was a great card, but it didn't really reflect my personal interests. Afterwards, tho, I was saddled with this notion of being a fan of sailing vessels, so I ran with it. To aid in the creation of ship themedecks, I created Merchant Prince to serve as the ship "Lord", of which most creature types had a patron saint. Lord of Atlantis comes to mind. OMNISCIENCE Perhaps too powerful a card? Note that the text states that the decks are not shuffled afterwards, which can tell the caster exactly what boths sides will draw for the rest of the match. Would take a good memory, or a notepad :) I didn't think the effect was too powerful, especially with the UUUUU cost, and the rampant number of deck-shuffling cards available - if the opponent uses this spell, just mix your deck up with some spell or other. Oh, and the image is pretty cool. DELIBERATION ON POTENCY This card belongs in the blue pantheon of metacards, right there with those cards that alter the color words and land words (don't remember the names!) A powerful card, but not overly powerful when compared with the bulk of game-altering blue standards. SYRINE SEDUCTRESS Another one of my early cards, the card mechanic itself is fairly uninspired, but the image was noteworthy and well-done. Unfortunately I think the image set a poor first impression among my followers, who assumed I would be cranking out porno MtG cards. Of all my bogus cards, this is the only one I recall to contain nudity. Its a mermaid, folks! Would the Disneyized seashells be more to your liking? VOLCANIC UPHEAVAL I really liked this card mechanic. Having trouble with your opponent sending Islandwalking creatures thru your islands? Zap one of your islands with this enchantment and solve your problem. I saw it as part of the escalating warfare of MtG, where once-dominating effects are gradually replaced by more powerful effects or defenses. Landwalking seems like a cheap tactic to me, hence the card. PHANTOM WARRIOR My goal was to create more Phantasms and Illusions, especially given the existence of my "illusion lord". This was a good start, IMO, but ultimately I wanted a small army of phantasmal cards, but never quite got there. |
