leftend 03/09/99 game.com Inactive rightend

Since my first posted Rant back in September, I've kept putting off the inevitable discussion of the game.com's state of affairs. The wait is over. It's time to face reality and speak of matters as they truly are:

  • The game.com has been around for about 18 months now, and has promptly went nowhere. Tiger Electronics continues to baffle me with their constantly-shifting degrees of support for the system. At one moment, we have promises of a full-scale "advertising blitz", while the next three months offer up a complete zone of silence. The game.com will never achieve any level of success with the support that Tiger has displayed over the last six seasons.

  • A lack of support can almost be ignored if the system has strong-enuf games backing it up, but unfortunately such is not the case. There are about 15 titles currently available for the Com, and a majority of them are simply bad games. With so few titles, and most of them inferior, even the diehard supporters are left with no means to actively support the system. Promises of future titles only go so far, Tiger.

  • Does the system really need to subjected to yet another re-design? How many Coms am I expected to buy before an actual game is available to play on those systems?

  • Looping back to the first statement, these desperate attempts at re-design and re-launch wouldn't be necessary if Tiger would support the system properly from the start. If the behavior of Tiger were to be mapped onto an individual, I'd be forced to label that person as schizophrenic and self-destructive.

Tiger, support the Com properly or let it die. The time for excuses are behind us.
