leftend 05/13/98 game.com pocketpro First Look! rightend

Finally, the first look at the new game.com pocketpro! There is a catch, however - the image is... well, distorted, apparently to keep the gcpp hidden before its official debut at E3. This image, along with any others that might follow it, can be located over in the Archives, or you can click on the thumbnail below.

As listed on Tiger's game.com website:

"What? Did you think we would show it all at once? More to come!"

This image doesn't reveal too much information, but I would like to direct your eyes to a few notable items. First, notice that the gcpp retains the classiCom's horizontal layout, being longer on the X coordinate than the Y. Also note that the new Com retains the rounded rectangular form that we're accustomed to. These might seem like obvious pointers, but remember that we didn't have any idea what the new Com would look like until now.

The clearest feature of this image is the A-D buttons layout. A notable feature is the absense of the "trenches" that surrounded the A-B and C-D buttons on the ClassiCom, which (at least in my case) made rapid switching from one "trench" to the next somewhat difficult. Overall, this is looking to be a design improvement.

Despite the majority of distortion and morphing being done to roughly where we expect the screen to be, it appears fairly obvious that this image has a glowing green screen. My guess would be "expect the gcpp to be backlit". Anyone else think this looks like the Timex Indiglo light?

I don't think any more useful information can be extracted from the distortion; perhaps a few assumptions, wild guesses, or general conclusions. The top-middle of the image appears to be distorted text, probably the pocketpro logo. Nothing much can be made out of the area we assume the directional pad and speaker would be. There seems to be quite a bit of green glow above the A-D buttons (where the on-off button probably is located), but that could merely be distortion from the screen.

At the very least, Tiger has found a method to have us visiting their website daily :)
