Looks like some information leaked (or *was* leaked) to Next Generation
Online about Tiger's future plans for the Com:
Game.com's Second Coming
Following the purchase of Tiger by Hasbro, the Game.com is undergoing
major changes.
NextGen, March 31, 1998
In what is expected to be announced at the Electronic Entertainment
Exposition (E3), the Game.com will soon be called the game.com
pocketpro. Along with the new name, a new design will accompany the
change in addition to a host of new software.
New carts for 1998 include some major movie, videogame and sports
titles: Resident Evil 2, Holyfield Boxing (which will include a
"real-feel" rumble pack), Monopoly, Small Soldiers, Madden Football
'99, Sonic Jam, X-Files, Castlevania, Fighters Megamix, Wheel of
Fortune 2, Jeopardy!, Tiger Casino, Giga Deluxe and NBA Live '99. It's
really amazing how Tiger is always able to grab nearly all of the
largest entertainment licenses around.
Tiger also is finally working on its first original game, Mutoids. The
game is said to be something of an action/RPG that sounds somewhat
similar to Nintendo's Pocket Monsters (players collect and train
mutated characters). Via head-to-head cables, Mutoids can engage in
direct combat -- not only against other game.com-based Mutoids but
also against Mutoids from two other soon-to-be-introduced Tiger
product lines: the Mutoid Giga Fighters (which are dot-matrix
electronic keychain games with 32x29 resolution) and the 99X-based
Mutoids (99X is a dedicated electronic handheld cabinet with 80x80
dot-matrix resolution).
The suggested retail price for game.com and game.com.pocketpro is
$49.95. Cartridges sell for $19.95 and $29.95. Look for more details
in the coming weeks and more from Next Generation Online at E3.
