The Ebon Death

Level: 8th Illusion/Phantasm
Range: 10 yards Components: V,M,S
Duration: permanent Casting Time: 5
AoE: 1 target creature Saving Throw: none

The Ebon Death, also known as Void of Insanity or Malebode's Sensory Deprivation, shuts out all sensory information to the victim's brain. Upon spell completion, hundreds of small black motes swirl from the caster's hands towards the target, settling into the his sensory organs. Similar to the Blindness and Deafness illusions but much more potent, this spell prevents any and all sensory input. The victim seems immersed in an endless blackness, possibly believing to have died and entered some form of Hell. When so afflicted, the victim collapses; convulsing, moaning, or screaming.

The condition is permanent, with only a Limited Wish, Wish, or Heal (specifically targeted) possible of reversing the effect. If not cared for, the victim will shortly die of hunger, thirst, or exposure. Even with proper care, the victim faces the damaging effect of potential insanity. For each hour suffered of the Ebon Death, the victim must attempt a Wis/Willpower check or go permanently insane (as per Mindshatter: Hallucinatory Insanity).

Only creatures with functional sensory organs are affected by this spell. Undead creatures, along with any others who sense the world through purely magical means, are not subject to the Ebon Death. Beings normally immune to illusion/phantasms are more resistant, being allowed a saving throw versus spells to avoid this most potent of illusions.

The material component for this spell is a hood worn by a hanged man, which is consumed in the casting.
