WoundBlade

Level: 5th
Components: V,M,S
Range: touch
Casting Time: 1 round
Duration: 5 rounds/level
Saving Throw: none
Area of Effect: 1 bladed weapon
Enchantment/Charm, Necromancy

This spell magically enchants a weapon to inflict difficult-to-heal wounds upon its victim. Wounds inflicted by the enchanted weapon automatically cause a loss of one hit point per round, in rounds subsequent to the wounding. Multiple woundings are cumulative; an opponent struck by a WoundBlade four times during combat would be losing 4 hit points per round afterwards.

The victim continues to lose hit points from these magical wounds until the damage is bandaged, or until 10 rounds pass. Damage from a Woundblade can only be healed by normal rest and recuperation; Cure spells, healing potions, regeneration effects, or any magical healing short of a Wish are ineffective.

WoundBlade can be cast upon any bladed weapon, having no effect upon other weapon types. The bladed weapon may be one already bearing a previous enchantment. While the wounding effect is itself magical, the blade gains no normal bonuses to hit or damage; a creature hit only by +1 or better magical weapons would prove immune to a WoundBlade (without additional enchantments).

A successful Dispel Magic will end the enchantment prematurely, but any wounds suffered prior to the negation run their course. This spell, combined with Enchant an Item, Enchanted Weapon, and Permanency, is the source of Swords of Wounding.

The material component is a live specimen of leech, which is consumed in the casting.
