Absolom's Pureflame Level: 2nd Necromancy Range: 0 Components: V,M,S Duration: Instantaneous Casting Time: 1 round Area of Effect: 30 foot radius Saving Throw: Special When cast, Absolom's Pureflame opens a small channel to the Positive Energy plane, releasing a burst of blinding energy radiating about the caster. This Positive Energy burst (which appears as a pure white Faerie Fire) has the effect of Turning undead, as per the clerical ability. When cast by a third level mage, the Turning functions as a first level cleric. For every three levels of experience beyond that, the Turning attempt functions at one level higher (a third level caster turns as a first level cleric, a sixth level caster turns as a second level cleric, etc). To determine the spell's effect, consult Table 61: Turning Undead of the Player's Handbook, p103. All undead creatures within a 30 foot radius of the caster at the spell's completion are subject to the Turning effect. Note that Absolom's Pureflame cannot Turn more than the normal 2d6 undead, even if more than that number are actually within the spell's area-of-effect. Evil-aligned casters cannot control undead by use of this spell. Note that the Faerie Fire-like radiance surrounding the caster is present for the entire round of casting, making the caster an easier target to strike, depending on the prevalent lighting conditions. The material component for this spell is a holy symbol of any good-aligned church, given freely to the caster. |
