Psionic Trigger allows the psionicist
to set predefined conditions that will automatically trigger a
chosen psionic power upon occurrence. After making a successful
power check, the psionicist mentally defines the condition to
be met, and the power to be triggered by the condition. The conditions
must be specifically defined, but otherwise can be nearly anything.
For example, "Trigger a Disintegrate when a kender approaches
within 10 foot, aimed at the kender".
The user must be aware that the conditions
have been met, or else the power will not trigger - an event ocurring
hundreds of miles away won't trigger the chosen power, unless
the psionicist has some means of knowing this information. A
power check must be performed for the triggered power; it does
not automatically succeed due to being a triggered effect. The
psionicist must have enough PSPs remaining to pay the cost of
the to-be-triggered power, and the power must have a valid target.
For example, "Trigger a Disintegrate 30 minutes from
now, aimed at Korak the dwarf", will not work if Korak
is not present. The triggered power will only function for one
round unless specifically defined otherwise in the condition list,
such as "Trigger a Levitate upon falling 10 feet, and
maintain the power for 4 rounds afterwards". The psionicist
can extend a predefined duration, but must pay that power's initial
cost again.
Only one power may be subject to a
single Psionic Trigger, altho multiple Psionic Triggers
can be maintained independently.
